Visakhapatnam: The southwest monsoon is expected to hit Andhra Pradesh in the second week of June. As per the India Meteorological Department officials, this year the monsoon is delayed by five days. Many parts of the state witnessed pre-monsoon rains, providing respite to the people from the scorching heat wave conditions.

Farmers have been advised against the sowing of crops till the second week of June, keeping in view of the slow progress of monsoon.

Some of the cities including Visakhapatnam were drenched in heavy rains accompanied by a thunderstorm with strong winds at 30 to 40 kmph. Due to the rains, the maximum temperature declined, giving hope to the farmers of favourable monsoon conditions.

The IMD states that due to the impact of upper air circulation in west central Bay of Bengal near north Andhra and south Odisha coast, the Telugu states are receiving the rainfall.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is likely to continue on Tuesday at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and parts of Rayalaseema.

As per the latest IMD report, an east-west shear zone is expected to develop across the extreme south peninsula on June 5, showing favourable conditions for the onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala. As of now, many parts of Coastal AP and Rayalaseema are experiencing pre-monsoon showers and thunderstorm activity. A warning for thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds of 30-40 km per hour was also issued for the next two days.

The rains are likely to continue for the next four-five days in Coastal AP and Rayalaseema.
