YSRCP’s AP Bandh Evokes Massive Response, 100s Arrested

Several YSRCP activists were arrested for enforcing the bandh call, on Tuesday.

Vijayawada: The bandh call given by YSR Congress Party, demanding Special Status for Andhra Pradesh, evoked good response from people of all walks of the society including educational institutions and business establishments. All buses remained at depots throughout the state.

Guntur: YSRCP leaders courted arrested at several places in the town here on Tuesday. However, the protests continued with the strong participation of student unions and civil society members. Schools and colleges were shut as a precautionary measure. At the Vijayawada bus depot, YSRCP activists blocked the depot entrance to prevent the RTC buses from plying. Senior party leaders Vangaviti Radha was among the leaders who led the blockade.

Protests and sit-ins were staged at several towns and district headquarters by YSRCP activists.

In Mangalagiri, police arrested YSRCP MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy among 10 others for staging the dharna. They had laid a seige to the Mangalagiri RTC bus depot since 5 a.m. However, police swooped down on the protestors and arrested them. Following the arrest, several youth started a bike-rally and sought public support to make the bandh a success.

In Sattenapalli, YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu courted arrest with 20 of his followers. Similar arrests were made in Ravulapalem in East Godavari when police arrested MLA Jaggi Reddy and his associates. In YSR district, MLA Amjad Basha and mayor Suresh Babu were arrested for staging a dharna for Special Status.

Similar protests were held in Chittoor, Srikakulam, Krishna, Visakhapatnam, Prakasam and other districts.
