In Thursday's public meeting at Nalgonda, Telangana caretaker Chief Minister and TRS Chief K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) quoted a latest survey, according to which apart from the seven seats to be won by the MIM (Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen), the TRS would win 110 out of the remaining 112 constituencies in the State's upcoming Assembly polls. Shortly after his statement yesterday, Republic TV-C Voter's 'National Approval Ratings' indicated a similar outcome during the 2019 general elections. However, the TRS has some friends to make in the newly formed State. According to the Ratings, the TRS, if it allies with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has a chance to win 15 out of the 17 Lok Sabha seats if the elections were to be held today.

If KCR prefers to go for the Lok Sabha polls individually, the TRS would reduce their tally of 11 MP seats to nine while the Congress would pull off a 200% improvement in their seat share from the State. The Republic survey outlined that the Congress would win 6 seats as against its 2014 tally of just 2 MP seats. A lone MP from the YSR Congress party (YSRCP) shifted loyalties to the TRS post 2014 elections, in which BJP and the MIM won a Lok Sabha seat each. However, the Approval Ratings suggest that the BJP and MIM would retain their seat share.

Although the Congress-TDP alliance-in-the-making is bound to benefit the Congress in the upcoming elections, it would essentially mean a no-gainer to the TDP, which had in 2014 won the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency, the largest in the country in terms of number of voters.

On the other side, Asaduddin Owaisi's MIM party is poised to gain a significant vote share, an increase of 2.2% from 2014, in the upcoming elections, as per the Ratings.

All in all, the 5% gap between the overall vote shares of the TRS (34.9%) and the Congress (30.3%) might prove to be a deciding factor in the Assembly elections. With a significant vote share of 11.7% for Others (TJS, CPI, CPM etc.,), the Congress-led grand alliance might well be in the driving seat to form the government.
