Telangana Exhibitors Demand Percentage-Based Revenue Model for Peddi and Other Film Screenings
A key meeting of Telangana exhibitors was held at the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, where theatre owners and exhibitors strongly voiced their concerns over the ongoing rental-based system in the film exhibition sector and demanded the implementation of a percentage-sharing revenue model.
The press meet was attended by Telangana Exhibitors President Vijayender Reddy, Telangana Film Chamber Secretary Sridhar, Sudarshan Theatre’s Balagovind Raj, Ravindra Gopal and several other exhibitors and theatre representatives.
Speaking at the meeting, Telangana Film Chamber Secretary Sridhar said discussions had been held with the Telugu Film Chamber committee multiple times regarding the issue. He stated that during the release of Hari Hara Veera Mallu, assurances were reportedly given that the exhibitors’ problems would be resolved within two months, but nearly a year has passed without any concrete solution.
Sridhar asserted that exhibitors are demanding a percentage-based revenue share for the upcoming film Peddi and warned that theatres would screen films only if the percentage system is implemented. He alleged that producers were unnecessarily provoking exhibitors and changing their stance repeatedly on the proposed grading system and release window policies.
“Initially they spoke about a three-week window, now it has been extended to six weeks. We need clarity and fairness,” he said.
The exhibitors also announced that Juvvadi Sekhar has been elected as the new President of the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce.
Sudarshan Theatre representative Balagovind Raj expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of theatre owners, claiming that nearly 120 theatre owners are facing severe financial difficulties. He accused producers of deliberately delaying discussions on the issue.
“Earlier, theatres used to generate strong revenues. But today exhibitors are struggling, while producers are earning through multiple revenue streams including OTT, satellite, digital and other rights,” he said.
Telangana Exhibitors President Vijayender Reddy stated that the percentage-sharing system is followed across the country, whereas Telangana continues to operate largely on a rental-based model.
“Only here do we still have the rental system. Instead of resolving the issue, it is being continuously delayed,” he remarked, urging the industry stakeholders to arrive at a fair and sustainable solution for exhibitors.
