'Bankers objecting waiving off loans'

Seeking to putforth face-saving alibis on the issue of crop loan waiver, Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister Pattipati Pulla Rao said that the bankers were not in favour of loan waiver.

Speaking in the assembly on Monday, he said, “We did give the assurance, but that was in united AP. Despite division, we shall not go back on that.”

He said that there was a sea-change in the financial position of the state post division.

“Clarity will emerge on the issue after CM Chandrababu Naidu's Delhi tour slated for June 26,” the minister said.

It may be recalled that Kotaiah Committee, constituted to look into the issue of loan waiver, could not give its report to the government due to the objections from the Reserve Bank of India.

The RBI has already written letters to both the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on loan waiver.
