Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) officials have finalised a plan to use the area to create a revenue stream. This decision came after the historic hangar that served as the Central Bus Station (CBS) at Afzalgunj collapsed in July last year. Mini theatres and commercial complexes will be set up at the place. The RTC is neck- deep In losses and so they plan on doing this to generate some kind of profit and to find new avenues to earn money.

Officials are planning to make this site into a terminal which will be a main connect for people going to rural areas and long distance destinations. It has been finalized to construct a complex vertically where the ground floor will be for buses, the first floor will be given for parking and the second floor will have office spaces and shopping complexes. However, This is expected to move slowly owing to the upcoming elections. It's only after that that tender process for the works would begin. It would take about two years to complete, said an RTC official.

The CBS complex has been known to handle over 2000 buses per day for 88 years now.

Officials have snubbed the idea of using the heritage background for the structure after a poor response to the auction of the collapsed hanger. Apart from this officials are planning to scout for other locations owned by the TSRTC to undertake commercialization. This will include places like Bus Bhavan and Jubilee Bus Station.
