Hyderabad: Actor Mahesh Babu’s new theatre AMB (Asian Mahesh Babu) Cinemas has come under the scanner of GST anti-profiteering wing, Ranga Reddy district officials said on Tuesday. A show cause notice has been served to the AMB cinemas, for violating GST norms.

When the tax sleuths got to know that the multiplex has not reduced the prices of the tickets despite reduction GST, they inquired into the issue. Officials found that the theatre authorities by retaining the price had denied the benefits of GST reduction to the audience.

28 % to 18% has been reduced on the tickets priced more than Rs 100. 12% of the ticket price is equal to or less than Rs 100, which was earlier 18%. The rates were effective from January 1.

The anti-profiteering wing under the jurisdiction of the Ranga Reddy GST Comissionerate has monitored other multiplexes within the twin cities and sample tickets were collected from few of them. While the sleuths were on the process found that AMB Cinemas retained the old GST rates, the officials issued a show cause notice to AMB management. The sleuths were authorised to book a case under Section 171 of the CGST Act, 2017. In earlier instance Prasads another famous multiplex in the city was also booked under the same charges for not revising their ticket price.
