Cash For Vote Case: ED Issues Notices To Revanth Reddy, 2 Others

Hyderabad: With the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issuing notices in the Notes-for-Votes case of 2015, to AP Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's aides, Revanth Reddy, currently working president of Telangana Congress and earlier a TDP spearhead in Telangana, and his associates, the spotlight is back on the TDP supremo and AP chief minister. The ED issued notices to A. Revanth Reddy, his associates, R. Udaysimha and V. Narender Reddy after registering a fresh case under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) of 2002.

The Enforcement Directorate has issued notices to all three to appear before it in the case. Over the next three weeks all three have been summoned by the ED.

This would bring the case on to the centrestage of things. All of them are charged with attempting to lure nominated Anglo-Indian MLA Elvis Stephenson to vote for TDP MLC candidate, Narender Reddy. An audio tape with a voice alleged to be that of Chandrababu has gone viral. In the conversation Stephenson was told that "manavallu briefed me" ("I have been briefed by our people"), a remark which as well-known as many popular film dialogues.

In September 2018, Revanth Reddy's house, along with that of his close relatives, was raided by the Income Tax authorities. Earlier, in July 2015, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the Telangana government had registered an FIR against Revanth Reddy and three others under Section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120-B. Chandrababu Naidu's name finds prominent mention in the charge sheet which runs into more than 300 pages. The ACB also presented as evidence the audio tapes comprising voice alleged to be that of Chandrababu Naidu, to the Court.
