Hyderabad: Several senior Congress leaders including MP Revanth Reddy, TPCC working president Vikramarka, former MP Ponnam Prabhakar, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, former MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy and many others were placed under house arrest, ahead of the Congress party's call to lay siege to the Pragathi Bhawan in Hyderabad on Monday.

They were either placed under house arrest or were taken into preventive custody in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana.

This preventive measure was taken as the Congress has called for a protest in support of the ongoing TSRTC strike. Interestingly in a first of its sorts, the Begumpet Metro station was closed to prevent the Congress workers from using this service to reach the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao’s residence cum Camp Office.

It was reported that the station was later opened amid heavy security to avoid inconvenience to public, though there was no information from the Metro Rail officials to confirm the closure.

A large number of police personnel were deployed in and around Pragathi Bhavan and Somajiguda circle, in the morning hours itself as a preventive measure. Police were also deployed at the Congress leaders residences in Hyderabad and Telangana.

A rally was planned from Gandhi Bhawan to Pragathi Bhawan at 10 AM in the morning, but police personnel were deployed there to prevent them from taking out the rally.
