Virat Kohli has achieved another milestone during the ongoing T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh in Adelaide. Virat Kohli has surpassed Mahela Jayawardene's 2014 record of 1016 runs to become the all-time greatest run-scorer in men's T20 World Cups.

Now, Kohli has a T20 World Cup average of more than 80 and a strike rate of more than 130. The run that put him ahead of Jayawardene came off the 13th ball he faced on Wednesday, in India's seventh over.

In his sixth T20 World Cup, Kohli became the competition's leading run-scorer in only his 23rd innings, with 12 half-centuries. In contrast, Jayawardene achieved this record after 31 innings but faced fewer balls (754 balls) than Kohli (773).

Most runs in T20 World Cup history:

Virat Kohli - 1017 (84.75 average)

Jayawardene - 1016 (39.06)

Chris Gayle - 965 (34.46)

Rohit Sharma - 921 (35.42).

Kohli also owns the record for most runs scored in all T20 internationals, surpassing Rohit, Martin Guptill, Babar Azam, and Paul Stirling. Kohli is approaching the 4000-run mark in T20Is, averaging more than 50 runs per match with a strike rate of almost 140.
