Sadhguru Handled Snake That Strayed into Chikballapur Event, Isha Foundation Clarifies

Chikballapur: Reacting to the ‘misinformed complaint’ against Sadhguru over the display of rat snake at an event here, Isha Foundation on Monday said the complaint against the spiritual leader was based on hearsay.

Consecration event of a Naga Deity was underway at the Isha Yoga Centre in Chikballapur on Oct. 9. A volunteer noticed a snake entering the premises and alerted Sadhguru who handled the reptile gently and ensured that it went into the nearby forest, a press release from Isha Foundation said.

The snake was not harmed, trapped or transported as reported in the media. The policemen present at the event also witnessed the incident. On this occasion, Sadhguru attempted to remove people’s conceptions about snakes and said that snakes are harmless reptiles unless attacked. He also mentioned that the number of people who die of snake bites are much lower than those who die in road accidents, the statement added.

It is worth mentioning here that reports emerged on Sunday that members of Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) had complained to the Chikkaballapur District Forest official. The complainant also claimed that Sadhguru allegedly violated the Wildlife Protection Act (WLPA) 1972 by displaying a protected reptile at an event.
