Director S. S. Rajamouli’s upcoming global-scale film Varanasi — starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran — is set to hit theaters worldwide on April 7, 2027. The film, shot in multiple exotic locations including Antarctica, has already raised expectations among fans and cinema lovers alike.

While many big-budget movies are released in IMAX format, Rajamouli has adopted a distinct approach for Varanasi due to the limited number of true IMAX screens in India. Instead of presenting the entire film in full IMAX, he has decided to enhance only some key action sequences with the immersive IMAX experience.

According to the report, the film will primarily be shown in standard widescreen format, but during certain high-octane scenes, the screen size and visual framing will expand to deliver a full IMAX-style spectacle. This approach is inspired by techniques used by international directors such as Christopher Nolan, and adapted for India’s current exhibition infrastructure.

Varanasi has Mahesh Babu playing a powerful character named Rudra, with Priyanka Chopra as Mandakini and Prithviraj Sukumaran portraying the antagonist Kumbha. The combination of a star cast, a global storyline, and advanced technical presentation has boosted anticipation for the release.
