Chandrababu as CM Is AP’s Misfortune: Jagan Slams Amaravati Push, Alleges Massive Scam
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched a fierce attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, alleging that the state was being pushed into financial disaster in the name of Amaravati and accusing the TDP government of prioritising “scams over governance.”
Addressing the media, the YSRCP chief said Andhra Pradesh was suffering because of Chandrababu’s decisions and claimed the state was heading towards a future without a practical capital city.
‘AP Is Paying the Price for Chandrababu’
Jagan alleged that Chandrababu had betrayed public promises and was forcing the state into unbearable financial burden through unrealistic capital city plans.
According to him, basic infrastructure in Amaravati — including roads, drainage, water supply and civic facilities — would itself require nearly Rs 2 lakh crore. Despite knowing the project was financially impractical, Chandrababu was aggressively pushing it forward purely for “kickbacks and contracts,” he alleged.
Jagan claimed that loans worth Rs 47,387 crore had already been raised for Amaravati, while another Rs 9,200 crore from the state treasury was set to be spent.
“He is breaking the backbone of Andhra Pradesh financially for the sake of scams,” Jagan alleged.
MAVIGAN Frightens Chandrababu
The former Chief Minister strongly defended the proposed MAVIGAN model, saying it was suggested as a practical and realistic alternative to ensure Andhra Pradesh gets a functioning capital without bankrupting the state.
Jagan claimed public support for the proposal had rattled Chandrababu politically.
“The mere mention of MAVIGAN seems to stop Chandrababu’s heartbeat,” he remarked sarcastically, accusing the Chief Minister and his ministers of resorting to abusive language because they were unable to counter the proposal politically.
Loot in the Name of Amaravati
Jagan alleged that the Amaravati construction model had become a “goldmine for corruption,” questioning the massive expenditure being proposed for government buildings.
He pointed out that despite already having Assembly, Secretariat and High Court structures built at a cost of around Rs 1,200 crore, the government now wanted to reconstruct everything from scratch.
According to Jagan, the estimated cost for five newly proposed buildings alone stands at Rs 10,665 crore, translating to more than Rs 20,000 per square foot even before furniture and interiors are added.
“Once interiors and furnishing are included, the cost could cross Rs 30,000 per square foot. Even five-star hotels are not built at such inflated costs,” he alleged.
Jagan further questioned why design contracts alone were reportedly costing Rs 401 crore and alleged that fresh tenders were being floated only to benefit the same contractors again.
Why Spend More Than Telangana Secretariat?
Drawing comparisons with neighbouring Telangana, Jagan noted that the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat was reportedly built for around Rs 615 crore.
He questioned why Andhra Pradesh’s Secretariat, Assembly and High Court projects were being planned at several times that amount.
“This is nothing but open loot in the name of capital construction,” he alleged.
AP Turned Into Jungle Raj
The YSRCP chief also accused Chandrababu of completely neglecting public welfare and turning Andhra Pradesh into a “Jungle Raj.”
He alleged that critics and opposition voices were being suppressed through police cases and intimidation while corruption and exploitation were flourishing unchecked across the state.
“After two years in power, Chandrababu should explain what exactly he has achieved apart from deception,” Jagan said, taking a swipe at the TDP slogan by remarking: “Chandrababu Surety means Guarantee of Betrayal.”
Jagan concluded by accusing the Chief Minister of indulging in “diversion politics” whenever questions were raised about governance failures and alleged corruption.
