Hyderabad: The YSRCP MLA from Narsaraopet, Dr. Gopireddy Srinivas Reddy on Tuesday alleged that the Speaker was violating the rights of the MLAs instead of protecting them. He was speaking in the context of the discussion on the ‘No Confidence motion’ against the Assembly Speaker, Kodela Sivaprasad Rao.

Gopireddy alleged that though the Speaker was from Sattenapalle constituency, he was taking up periodic reviews in Narsaraopet constituency and that every program there is being done under his purview. Can the speaker of the house take part in party activities, he questioned. In spite of being the local MLA, he was not given information on the government programs being conducted in Narsaraopet many times, he said and alleged that everything was being done under the watchful eye of Kodela Sivaprasad Rao.

Gopireddy stated that his allegations would be proved right if a review committee was setup to examine this. As the speaker was not protecting his rights as an MLA, the ‘No confidence motion’ was being taken up against him, he said.

Gopireddy also pointed out that Sivaprasad had not yet been given a clean chit by the CBI in the bomb blast case. Records would reveal that the ruling union government at that time had not agreed to the CBI prosecution on him, he said. Gopireddy demanded that there should be a discussion in the house on the corruption charges of the Speaker.
