Superstar Rajinikanth is basking in the success of 2.0 which has been declared a blockbuster hit in 2018. Currently, Rajinikanth is on cloud nine and on a spree of signing back to back movies. There are two movies in his pipeline with most talented directors-AR Murugadoss and Rajamouli. As of now, there is no official update when these movies will go on floors. Neither are his fans are interested to know about these projects as of now.

They are now eagerly waiting for Petta. It is a known fact that Rajini's fans in Chennai are in a festive mood. To make the festival more joyous, Rajinikanth has decided to treat his fans and audiences by releasing the most awaited movie Petta around Sankranthi week. Petta has generated positive buzz in Tamil Nadu and trailer and teaser have struck a chord with the audiences. Rajinikanth's Petta has failed to get the same response in Telugu because of the actor's back to back failures Kaala, Kabali and 2.0. The distributors and makers of Petta are finding it hard to get theatres as Telugu movies are also lined up for release around the same time leaving Rajini's movie makers hopeless this Sankranthi.

Speculations are doing the rounds that Petta is a copy of Mega star Chiranjeevi's Master which was released two decades back. Telugu Master featuring Chiranjeevi was a blockbuster hit. In Master, Chiranjeevi essayed the role of a lecturer saves students from being trapped by a mafia don. Buzz on social media is that Petta story is similar to the story of Master. In the Tamil flick, Rajinikanth is playing a hostel warden.

While in Master, Puneet Issar was the villain, in Petta, Nawazuddin Siddique, the Bollywood actor is the baddie. It is certainly disheartening to hear the copy controversy prior to release of the movie. Sometimes, it would effect box office collections. Now, it remains to be seen what could be the fate of Petta at the box office.

Petta is directed by Karthik Subbaraj who rose to fame with Pizza and it will hit the marquee on January-10. The typical entertainer will feature Simran and Trisha as female leads.
