Child Abduction Racket Busted In Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: The Vizag city police busted a child abduction gang after four members, including two womenwere arrested earlier. Addressing the media on Friday, Commissioner of Police RK Meena said the gang abducted children between the age of 3 months to three years from isolated locations after conducting a reccee. They later sold them to childless couples.

So far the gang kidnapped five children and sold four of them for a sum ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.2 lakh each. The arrested were B Nagamani - the main accused, J Anand alias Chandu alias Sekhar, T Sumanth Kumar and M Lakshmi. Two more women M Jyothi and Devi were arrested on charges of assisting them .

The CP said that the racket was busted after investigation into a child abduction case reported on August 5 at Simhachalam revealed details about the gang. N Kanthamma from Paderu lodged a complaint in Gopalapatnam police station that one Sekhar abducted her 2-year-old son Abhiram when she had gone to attend nature’s call. The police formed a special team, took the accused into their custody, and rescued the boy with the help of CCTV camera footage.

During further investigation, the police got to know that Chandu alias Sekhar was not alone and there was a gang operating since 2016, RK Meena said.

The main accused Nagamani, a resident of Arilova told Sumanth with whom she was having an affair with that her sister Satyavathi in Eluru was in need of children. To make easy money, he made a plan to abduct a child and hand over the child to Satyavathi.

In November 2016, the duo abducted an 8-month-old girl, who was with a beggar near VUDA Park and sold the baby to Satyavathi’s husband B Rambabu for Rs 50,000. After the incident, Sumanth went to Vizianagaram. However, Nagamani decided to stay back and commit more such offences in order to make easy money.

Using WhatsApp, she is said to have shared photographs of abducted children and pass them of as orphans. Nagamani was also said to be running a prostitution racket.

Accomplice sold his own daughter

In the year 2017, she spoke to Anand, an auto driver from Arilova whom she befriended for kidnapping another child. What was shocking was that Anand sold his daughter to a person named Md Ziauddin for Rs 1 lakh .Continuing their crimes, the duo abducted a girl from Arilova in July 2017. However, they handed over the baby to the police saying that they found her in some area and disappeared.

In November 2018, they abducted a 2-year-old boy from Bheemili and sold him to Eswara Rao at Nakkapalle for Rs 1.2 lakh. However, they ran out of luck after they were caught during the investigation of Simhachalam child abduction case. RK Meena said that four children were rescued and all of them were handed over to ICDS officials and will soon be restored to their parents.

Cases under Sections 420, 468, 471 Read With 34 IPC and under Sections 80,81 of the Juvenile Act and Section 363 for kidnapping have been registered against the accused. The accused have been produced before the court and sent to judicial remand.
