Hyderabad TRS Leader Arrested For Torching Pan Shop Owner’s Bike

Hyderabad: A local Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader was arrested by the Jubilee Hills Police officials for allegedly torching a motor cycle belonging to a pan shop owner on Saturday at Rahmath Nagar in Hyderabad.

The TRS leader in question, Arun Kumar was the Rahmath Nagar Division TRS General Secretary and ward committee member. The victim P Umakanth, a pan shop owner had the habit of parking his motorcycle in front of his friend Rahul's house near Nalla Pochamma temple in that area in the night. The local TRS leader was standing there and when Umakanth walked away after parking the bike, he was enraged at not being greeted by Umakanth. Nursing a grouse, he was going to beat Umakanth, but Rahul had warned him on time and he ran away.

In a fit of rage, Arun Kumar poured petrol on Umakanth's bike and burnt it. Umakanth came back later with two more friends and Arun Kumar kicked them in the scuffle that ensued. Arun Kumar's aides who were there started abusing them. Billa Pawan a rowdy-sheeter who was passing by at that time immediately informed the Rahmath Nagar Police Outpost. SI Sekhar rushed to the spot and took all of them into custody. Arun Kumar's aides again started hurtling abuses against all of them. Meanwhile the entire area was gripped with tension with the TRS leader's arrest and a video of this whole episode went viral last night.

Police were called into diffuse the situation and a Police picket was posted in Rahmath Nagar. Based on Umakanth's complaint that the TRS leader was threatening to kill him, Arun Kumar was arrested by the Jubilee Hills police.

A case under Sections 435, 323, 506, read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code was filed against him. Jubilee Hills Inspector K Balakrishna Reddy said that they would investigate into the matter and increase patrolling in the area and a Police Picket would be set up there till the situation comes under control.
