Five Killed In Car-Lorry Accident near Tirupati

Tirupati: Five members of a family, including a one-year-old boy, were killed after their car collided with a lorry near Mamanduru, about 20 km from Renigunta, Tirupati , in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victims were returning to their village in Dr.YSR Kadapa district in AP after receiving a family member, who had arrived in Chennai Airport from Kuwait, police said.

The accident occurred when a cement-laden lorry, which was going from Kadapa to Chennai crashed into the car which was coming from the airport police said, adding that all the occupants of the car were killed on the spot. The victims included Gangadharam (35), his wife Vijayamma (30), his younger brother Prasanna (32) , Mariamma (25) and their one and half year old daughter.

Police are investigating if either of the drivers could have fallen asleep at the wheel or whether excessive speeding led to the accident.
