AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (APCO) and online retail giant Amazon signed a pact in which Amazon promotes and sells handloom products from APCO, Andhra Pradesh Minister for IT and Industries Mekapati Goutham Reddy said on Tuesday.

Talking to media here, the minister said that by this agreement APCO will be immensely benefited and has created an international market for handloom products. He said that before the implementation of GST, the tax was taken from buyers, now tax is collected from sellers, it means whatever the GST we get for APCO will be reimbursed to the government of Andhra Pradesh.

"One of the biggest advantage is, the product will be sent only after completing the payment. Previously the seller used to sell products on credits," said the minister.

Around 104 types of handloom products will be marketed by Amazon. Moreover, the products will be available all the time worldwide and are guaranteed as they are certified by APCO and recognized by the government of Andhra Pradesh.

The major benefits of this agreement are that the APCO will be charged with one of the lowest commission in the e-commerce space. The commission will be restricted to eight per cent on the sale of APCO products. Whereas, other products in the Amazon are commissioned with 15 per cent.

Sarees, towels, lungies, dothies, chunnies/duppatas, dress materials, bed sheets, napkins are among the APCO products that have been listed on Amazon.
