Chief Minister Sri YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced an splecial aid of Rs 5,000 each to the families whose dwellings were submerged in the Godavari floods

Rajahmundry: Chief Minister Sri YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced an splecial aid of Rs 5,000 each to the families whose dwellings were submerged in the Godavari floods and has instructed the officials to take all relief and rehabilitation measures on a war-footing.

The Chief Minister, who held an aerial survey of the flood affected areas of East Godavari district on Thursday later had a review meeting with concerned ministers and officials at the ATC Tower Building here and told the officials not to spare any effort in helping out the needy.

The relief operations should be taken up in equal vigour not only in the submerged areas but also in all the flood affected areas, he said and announced that in areas where the standing crops were washed away, seeds would be distributed free of cost along with the special aid. In the low lying areas of Polavaram as well the special aid will be paid along with free supply of seeds.

The Chief Minster has enquired about the situation in Devipatnam and other areas lying on the upper side of Dhavaleswaram. The officials said that normally Godavari will not flood so severely even if the water flow is between 10-11 cusecs but this time it has happened. This could have happened due to the copper dam, the officials explained.

The Chief Minister has said that the water level at the construction site at Polavaram should be taken into consideration instead of the water level at Dhavaleswaram and steps should be taken to rehabilitate those evacuated from the submerged villages and low lying areas. The rehabilitation of Polavaram displaced persons should be taken up on a war footing, he said.

Those who attended the review meeting include Deputy Chief Ministers Pilli Subashchandra Bose and Alla Nani, State Ministers K Kanna Babu, Viswaroop, Anil Kumar Yadav, Ranganadha Raju and MP Margani Bharath. MLAs Jakkampudi Raja, Dhanalakshmi Balaraju, Karumuri Nageswaraa Rao and K Satyanarayana and concerned officials.
