Srikakulam: Telugu Desam Party got  a jolt in Anantapuram district. A Senior leader of TDP switched over to YSR Congress party in the presence of YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Abdul Gani, former MLA and a senior leader from the Hindupur constituency in Anantapur district joined the YSRCP. After joining the party, Abdul Gani said that Chandrababu had done nothing to the minorities in the past four and half years of his term.

He said, "I have served the TDP for 30 years but was not given priority. It was Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who gave 4% reservation to the Muslims and the fee reimbursement scheme started by the late people’s leader has benifited many students. Actor turned politician Balakrishna, brother-in-law of Chandrababu won the Hindupur seat in 2014 elections. Abdul Gani leaving the party and joining the opposition would certainly be hard to digest for the TDP cadre.

Abdul Gani was an MLA from 2009 till 2014 and refrained from contesting for the second term from the region as this seat was sought by Nandamuri Balakrishna. It is said that Gani was assured a MLC position in the TDP government by Chandrababu. But nothing went as assured and Balakrishna also humiliated him on certain occasions. Abdul Gani joined YSRCP after watching the overwhelming support to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy from the people.
