What are Nimmala's Chances in Palakollu? Check Out What History Says!

Bhimavaram: In Palakollu assembly constituency, TDP’s two-time MLA Nimmala Ramanaidu is facing an uphill battle as he is seeking a third consecutive term. Nimmala’s rival is YSRCP candidate Gudala Gopi who is more popular among the constituents due to the unprecedented development and welfare initiatives undertaken during Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's tenure. In addition to this, dissension within the ranks of the opposition alliance and the fear of losing the winning streak has further troubled the TDP candidate.

Political analysts suggest that history may repeat itself in this election. Palakollu constituency, in its 70-year-old electoral history, has never witnessed a candidate winning the seat three times in a row. In 1983, 1985, 1994, and 1999, Allu Venkata Satyanarayana was elected twice consecutively but faced defeat when he contested for the third time.

During Ramanaidu's previous two terms, the TDP MLA could not develop the constituency much and he has struggled to address the people's concerns effectively. On the contrary, during CM Jagan's five-year rule, Palakollu has seen significant development works and welfare schemes. Through these welfare schemes, approximately 6.84 lakh people, regardless of their caste, creed, or political affiliations, have benefited.

Moreover, tensions within the ranks of the opposition alliance are further complicating Ramanaidu's prospects. There are allegations that he has failed to groom the junior party leaders. Jana Sena and BJP leaders within the alliance are reportedly not happy with the approach and working style of the TDP candidate.

On the other hand, YSRCP candidate Gudala Gopi has been actively engaging with the people. He is going around the constituency and highlighting the developmental achievements of the past five years.  With the ruling party emphasising the historical trend of Palakollu voters rejecting candidates seeking a third term and opposition alliance’s internal bunkering, Ramanaidu's chance for a hat-trick appears to be slim.
