Coronavirus which took birth in Wuhan of China is spreading its claws across the globe. The deadly virus is threatening the people and the number of positive cases for COVID-19 infection are escalating. A 21-day lockdown is being imposed in India.

In an interview with a daily, Dr. David Nabarro, the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) special envoy on the disease told that there is no evidence to suggest that the coronavirus disease will disappear in the future. He further added that it is important to take preventive measures when the spread of virus is very less. If once, the outbreak grows then it is very difficult to handle the situation.

Tracing the people with disease, isolating them and quaranting them are quite important to follow to prevent the spread of coronavirus. He added that the lockdown in India was quite early on and this was really a far-sighted decision. It gave time for the country to know about the virus. The lockdown period gave the country to interrupt transmission and sorting out the hospitals.

David even said that though the public life has been disturbed and the country has come to a standstill but the lockdown is very important to curb the spread of virus. He added that there are a few countries who are paying now as they failed to predict the situation. He asserted that it is quite important to save the lives of people who are badly affected. There is also a need for the government to make sure that the poorer sections of people are able to get their food during the lockdown.

He further added that it is difficult to predict the nature of the virus as it is four months old and everyone is learning about it. He expressed hope that the severity of virus decreases. (Inputs from HT)
