Bird Box Challenge Goes Viral, Puts Netflix In A Fix

Netflix's 'Bird Box' series, which released on 21 December, 2018, has had more than 45,037,125 accounts viewing its psychological thriller which features Sandra Bullock in the lead role and directed by Susanne Bier.

But things got too far when fans started the #BirdBoxChallenge, where one had to perform everyday tasks blindfolded.

In the Web series, Sandra Bullock and the rest of the characters are seen wearing blindfolds to avoid mysterious forces, because when seen it could make you commit suicide if they make eye contact. The people in the film are forced to rely on their other senses to move through the world. So to save her children Sandra bullock warns them from taking off the blindfold.

This challenge went viral on social media and people started posting videos of themselves blindfolded and trying to perform various tasks . Many youngsters were hurt badly and they bumped into hard walls and some even got too close to traffic. Though it evoked a good laugh on social media, this led to the streaming service appealing to the viewers not to take part in a challenge which involves people putting blindfolds on themselves.

Netflix issued a warning to the viewers about Bird Box, writing, "Can't believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don't know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes."

The US Police have also expressed their concern and called the challenge as ridiculous and devoid of common sense just for a few likes and hits on social media, instead of thinking about children's safety.
