Tension In Khammam Market Yard

A tense situation prevailed again at the Khammam agriculture market yard. The hide and seek games being played in respect of cotton purchases by traders has made the farmers restive and they have attacked the market yard office on Friday. Since then, the farmers have been staging protests demanding that the officials of the yard stop siding with the traders.

On Monday, Telangana Congress Legislature Party leader Jana Reddy, senior leaders Bhatti Vikramarka and VH Hanumanth Rao went to the market yard to meet the restive farmers. They entered into an argument with the market yard officials and accused them of acting like TRS activists. The TRS workers, who were present in large numbers, objected to this and this led to fisticuffs between the Congress and the TRS workers.

Earlier, speaking to mediapersons, Jana Reddy said that the T Government has failed in providing a minumum price of Rs 3000 per quintal to the cotton farmers. He said the Government has promised to constitute a stabilisation fund but has done precious little on this count.
