Jadcherla: How did a Facebook friend turn into a killer? Sriharshini was a fifteen year-old girl sparkling with life, studying tenth standard in Kendriya Vidyalaya here. Sriharshini left home on Tuesday at around 5.30 pm towards the Jadcherla-Mahabubnagar highway saying that she had buy a pen and pencil. She got back home and left again saying she needed to buy something else and would return soon. Sadly, she never did. When she did not respond to phone calls from parents and her mobile was found switched off later, the anxious parents lodged a complaint with the Jadcherla police.

Local residents told investigating officers that Sriharshini got into a car not very far from her house. Police deduced that she must have known the individual driving the car to get into it on her own. Based on CCTV surveillance, police tracked down movements of the car. The vehicle had come towards Jadcherla from the Balanagar toll plaza and returned towards Hyderabad in half an hour. They traced the car to the owner who gave them details of his friend who had borrowed his car.

Police then took the accused Yenugu Naveen Reddy (28), a Hayathnagar based mechanic in wheel alignment workshop and began interrogating him. The accused confessed to killing Sriharshini, whom he befriended on Facebook three months ago. Over a few weeks, they developed a close relationship through chatting on Facebook and Whatsapp.

On Tuesday, Naveen came to Jadcherla to meet the tenth grade girl and after she got into his car, headed towards Shankarapalli tanda on the national highway. After speaking to each other for some time in a deserted place, he wanted to have physical relations with her, which the girl resisted. Sriharshini asked him to let go of her and while trying to run away, he caught hold of her dress and pulled her. This resulted in her dress getting torn. Naveen Reddy shoved her following which Sriharshini fell down. The accused then took a big stone and smashed her head with it killing the girl.

The accused then got into his car and fled to Hyderabad. Police probed the case and retrieved the body concealed near bushes close to the highway near Shankarapalli tanda. Sriharshini's body was identified by her parents.
