Warangal: About 30 prison inmates of Warangal Central prison were awarded their graduation degrees on Wednesday here after completing their graduation from the prison cells.
Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao presented the degrees and also lauded the Telangana prisons department for the good work.
“Circumstances force a person to commit crimes. Prisons in Telangana have provided an opportunity for people to correct themselves. Inmates must utilise the facilities provided under the ‘Unnati’ scheme and build a new life," Rao was quoted saying by a leading daily.
He added that several representatives from Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh have come to Telangana to learn how prisons run here.
Warangal Central Prison Deputy Superintendent D Kalidasu said that the prison departments effort to correct prisoners is yielding good results as the number of ex-inmates coming back to jail has decreased significantly.
