Hyderabad: Hyderabad is under plans to be converted into a global city, by dividing it into three parts; the city within the ORR, the city beyond ORR and the city beyond the proposed Regional Ring Road. The Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao said that Administrative Staff College of India will draft the master plan along with experts nationally and internationally, keeping in mind the future needs of the city as well.

The TS CM spoke during a meeting stating that, “We need to identify areas with specific reference — education city, sports city, cinema city, health city, etc — treating each one as a special entity. Permissions are to be given accordingly. The area is to be utilised for the purpose it is meant. Under any circumstances the master plan cannot be violated. An Act will be passed that any change to the master plan shall be done with the consent of the Cabinet.”

The Chief Minister said that the master plan is not meant for a body as small as the HDMA to execute. He insists on a larger body consisting of experts drawn from various fields like sewerage drinking water, power lines, traffic and environment. Assuring that the funds will be allocated by the Government, he Instructed the officials to get the master plan drafted in three months. The Status of Hyderabad, population, conditions of roads and traffic conditions, other facilities like sewerage system, Power supply and green cover will be also taken into consideration.

“If all these aspects are taken into consideration, we should make a decision and assess scientifically what would be Hyderabad after 10 years. Accordingly, the master plan has to be prepared,” he said.

He also added that more than 5 to 6 lakhs in population make their way to Hyderabad for employment on yearly bases. He also pointed out that more than 2 crore people use the Shamshabad Airport every year, all of which in-turn helps the economic development of the state.

Chandrasekhar Rao rightly pointed out that, if development does not take place in tune with the development of the state, we are in for a mess. “As of now, Hyderabad appears to be all right but unless we awaken now and prepare for the future the situation would be go of control,” He said.

Musi River is a cause for concern as it has become a industrial dump yard and the cities common drain. Apart from this Hyderabad faces traffic problems and depleting green cover. These are the key issues to be rectified. He suggested that polluting industries must be shifted to the outskirts of the city and unused industrial estates should be converted to green areas and parks. He has also instructed for rejuvenation of over 1.5 lakh acres of land in and around Hyderabad.
