CEO Rajat Kumar Rules Out EVM Tampering

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar on Tuesday ruled out the tampering of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) after videos were circulated on social media of EVMs being transported at night.

With videos of EVMs being transported during night time in an auto-rickshaw in Nizamabad going viral, the uncertainty of the issue spread panic among the political circles. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he revealed that the video has been verified by the Returning Officer, who found that the EVMs were used for demonstration process further mentioning that the EVMs seen in the video are M2, used to spread awareness while the machines used for the elections are M3.

Mr Kumar warned of legal action against those who spread fake news. Regarding the video of EVMs found at home, the Chief Electoral Officer said that the said video dates back to 2018 Rajasthan elections but is being spread on social media with false claims that the EVMs were found along the Nizamabad-Maharashtra border.

Also dismissing the concerns regarding the difference in poll percentages on the polling day and the next day, Rajat Kumar mentioned that the approximate poll percentage was announced on the evening of April 11 but they clarified that the precise statistics would be available the day after as several voters were still waiting in queues to cast their votes.
