Telangana Congress Helps TRS Touch The 100-Mark

Hyderabad: The TRS touched a century in the assembly. TRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao always wanted to achieve this feat before the elections. Thanks to the recent defections, this number has been made possible.

Before the assembly elections, TRS chief KCR would be often heard repeatedly mentioning that TRS would get more than 100 seats out of the 119 in the assembly. At first, the TRS ended up with 88 seats.

The accrual of seats began almost immediately afterward when legislators L Ramulu Naik from Wyra (independent) and K. Chandra Patel from Ramagundam (Forward Bloc) joined the TRS, taking its strength to 90.

Elvis Stephenson was re-nominated by the government as the MLA from the Anglo-Indian community, adding the count to 91.

After this eight Congress legislators and Telugu Desam MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah announced that they would join the TRS, some of them after meeting the Telangana CM and the others after meeting party working president KT Rama Rao. The TRS can now count on 100 votes. The TDP is now left with one legislator and the Congress 11.

Speculations are rife that a few Congress MLAs also might jump the ship. A few among them being Mulugu MLA Dasari Anasuya (Seethakka) and Bhadrachalam MLA Podem Veeraiah.
