Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Circle -18 Town Planning officials demolished portions of a housing structure which belonged to the Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police R P Thakur. AP DGP R P Thakur owned a house in Plot No 149, located in Prashasan Nagar of Jubilee Hills area at Hyderabad. It is alleged that the DGP had built structures, which encroached upon the GHMC Park. It is said that he had also built an illegal iron over bridge without obtaining any permissions from the GHMC.

As per the GHMC officials, he had obtained permission to build a G+1 floor house, but deviated from the approved plan and constructed two more floors. He did not stop at that, but also illegally occupied the land meant for setbacks and built structures in the GHMC Park next to his house. The GHMC had demolished the illegal structures in the park and sent notices to him about the portions built in deviation from the sanctioned plan.

According to GHMC officials, three notices were sent to RP Thakur to remove that portion of the structure, which deviates from the sanctioned plan.

YSR Congress Party Mangalagiri MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy who had earlier filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Telangana High Court urging the court to demolish these illegal structures on Thursday. The case was taken up as an urgent hearing before Justice RS Chauhan and Justice T Amaranath Goud who gave an interim order directing a status quo, giving time till March 11 to the DGP to respond to the GHMC notice.

On June 4 , 2017 Prashasan Nagar Housing Cooperative Society had filed a complaint against the DGP for illegal construction and another notice was sent on June 17.

The GHMC has also brought to the court's notice that DGP had approached the City Civil Court and obtained an injunction against the previous two notices, but the GHMC has fought the case and lower court after hearing its version, dismissed the DGP's case. Subsequently the DGP removed a few portions of the encroachments, but has some of the structures were still there in the park area.

The GHMC said fresh notices would be issued to the DGP on the violation of the sanctioned plan.
