By denying seats to members of BC communities, the Congress high command was doing great injustice to the backward classes, said former minister Vanama Venkateshwara Rao. He added that it was unfortunate that a person of his seniority and experience had to wait with uncertainty for a ticket. The former minister said that giving the Kothagudem assembly ticket to the CPI as a part of seat-sharing would be a self-goal for the Congress. It would amount to helping the Telangana Rashtra Samithi win the seat, he added.

The senior Congress leader alleged that the CPI candidate from Kothagudem, Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao fell to the inducements of the TRS the last time around and came fifth in the electoral contest. Sambasiva Rao was insisting on the Kothagudem ticket once again, Venkateshwara Rao said.

The former minister also said that he would win the Kothagudem with a majority of 30,000 votes. He demanded that one seat from Khammam, Mahbubabad and Kothagudem should be given to members of the BC community. The former minister also reminded the Congress high command of its assurance to allot two tickets to BC candidates in the Lok Sabha seat purview. In conclusion, Vanama Venkateshwara Rao said that he always stand by the people of Kothagudem, come what may.
