Congress Grand Alliance in Telangana

New Delhi: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Uttam Kumar Reddy is believed to have reported to the Congress core committee members AK Antony and Ghulam Nabi Azad that the delay in finalising the contestants with alliance partners TDP, TJS and CPI was owing to the deadlock over candidate selection in around 35 seats in and around the GHMC limits. While the Congress leaders believe that its candidates would win in most of the constituencies, the TDP and TJS are adamant on fielding their candidates. In a detailed discussion over the state of affairs with the core committee members, Uttam was accompanied by AICC Secretary and Telangana Affairs In-charge RC Khuntia.

TDP Vs TJS Stalemate

The TPCC reportedly informed the core committee the situation in several constituencies where there is a demand for ticket from three parties while in some other constituencies where the Andhra settlers are present, the TDP is vying for the seats, while the TJS is insisting on contesting from places where the Telangana agitation was intensive.

Also, deliberations over the possible defection of the TRS leaders to the Congress were also held, in the context of Congress President Rahul Gandhi's visit in the State on Saturday, when he will address a public meeting in Kamareddy. Speaking to media after the core committee meet, RC Khuntia said the seat sharing process would come to an end very soon.

"TRS is a private organisation. Only KCR, his son, daughter and son-in-law are decision makers. There is no scope for democratic values and recommendations of committees. We should not compare the Congress with the TRS," he commented. Asked about the stalemate over the candidate selection in various constituencies, he said that the hopefuls who would not get the tickets would be given MLC, Rajya Sabha seats and nominated posts.
