Special Status Is Equally Inevitable As GST: YS Jagan Mohan Reddy

As part of his effort to mobilize support from all the political parties on special status issue, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been meeting leaders of all the parties in the nation’s capital city.

New Delhi: The Special Category Status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh (AP) has assumed a greater significance as Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill approved by Parliament, according to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, YSRCP President. “Thanks to GST. As the new bill coming into force, the special status is inevitable for AP. In this context, special status is very important for AP, he said.

Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, YS Jagan said: “With GST coming into force from April 1, 2017, all the tax-related incentives and sales tax will come under the Centre’s purview. This will affect investment flow into AP. Since AP lacks proper infrastructure, the state can’t attract investments and compete with other developed states. That’s why we demand special status for AP. We continue to fight until we get special status for AP.”

As part of his effort to mobilize support from all the political parties on special status issue, YS Jagan has been meeting leaders of all the parties in the nation’s capital city. YS Jagan along with party MPs met D Raja, CPI national leader.

YS Jagan further said that AP can’t offer any tax incentive to any company in the wake of GST. Unless special status is given to AP, the State wouldn’t be in a position to attract investment to generate more jobs.

“Special Status is the only solution for AP for industrial development and providing employment to the youth. YSCRP wouldn’t compromise on this. India fought for freedom for over 100 years. YSRCP will fight for special status until we get it regardless of time it takes,” said YS Jagan.
