Second Train Accident In A Week In UP; Kaifiyat Express Derails Near Kanpur, 50 Injured

KANPUR: Ten coaches of Delhi-bound Kaifiyat Express derailed in UP's Auraiya district during the wee hours of Wednesday, injuring at least 50 passengers. The train No. 12225 (up) was proceeding from Azamgharh to Delhi. The train hit a dumper which was crossing an unmanned gate before its coaches derailed.

This is the second train accident in the state in a week. Utkal Express derailed in Muzaffarnagar district killing 23 people and injuring 156 last Saturday.

The accident occurred around 2.40am when the train collided with a dumper. Railways minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted about the mishap, saying that he is personally monitoring the situation.

An NDRF team has been rushed to the spot for rescue and relief purposes, news agency ANI reported.

At least 50 passengers were injured and have been rushed to the hospital, MC Chauhan, General Manager, NCR told PTI.

NCR sources said that work for a dedicated freight corridor was going on at the site at the time of the accident.

Officials have rushed to the spot to provide rescue and relief operations to the passengers. The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals.
