Chandrababu Babu Rule Marked By Lies, Deception

Undrakudiya Junction, Srikakulam district: My Padayatra today moved through the villages of Pedamadi, Cheepurupalli, Regulapadu and Tekkalipatnam. On both sides of the road I saw trees which had been uprooted and had fallen on the ground. They bore testimony to the devastation caused by Cyclone Titli in these areas.

Representatives of tribal communities met me this morning and complained to me about the complete neglect and watering down of the tribal cooperative organisation. They expressed their anguish saying that ITDA had become completely powerless.

Tribals were at the receiving end of things even when it came to jobs under the purview of ITDA they said. Villagers poured out their woes on the compensation and rehabilitation mechanism put in place by the government with respect to Regulapadu offshore project. Some complained that they did not get any compensation, while others pointed out that those who were not eligible have been rewarded in a big way by the TDP government. This is how public funds were being looted, they complained. Yet others remarked that even in matters of compensation, discrimination was blatant.

The TDP government which did not find a solution to any of their problems, wanted them to move to places meant for resettlement. It was exerting tremendous pressure on them, they lamented. “How can we build our houses in a place which does not have basic facilities?“, they asked. All of them were extremely disturbed and agitated. During my father’s tenure, he initiated many projects. However people never felt insecure about getting displaced. Under the TDP government, we find this insecurity because the leadership is more concerned about kickbacks and commissions than the human touch needed to think of the welfare of people and their resettlement. I stepped into Palasa constituency this afternoon after completing my Padayatra in Pathapatnam constituency and went past the offshore project at Regulapadu.

I could see the foundation stone laid by my father in the year 2008. Unfortunately, he passed away after a short period. It saddened me to see that work which had been progressing speedily in his tenure slowed down completely after his untimely demise. Local villagers told me that even though 10 years had lapsed, there was no sign of any progress.

With deep anguish, they narrated the drama is being enacted by the TDP government. This farce included the local MLA pretending to agitate for the project, the chief minister giving an assurance of releasing funds and the local TDP leaders thanking him and rejoicing upon hearing this announcement.

People saw through this farce, they pointed out and lamented that neither were funds released, nor did the project show any signs of taking off.

Lies and deception are the hallmarks of Chandrababu Naidu’s governance. For how long does he think he can continue to deceive people in this fashion?

I had a very fruitful and warm interaction in the evening with members of the Kalingavysya community in the evening.

I have a question for the chief minister —you have been claiming that your government has spent Rs. 63,657 crores towards irrigation projects over the past four and a half years. Apart from hiking up the estimated costs of ongoing projects and looting public money, is there a single project which you have initiated as well as completed in this period?
