Titli Cyclone Relief Seen On CM’s Flexis, Not On Ground: YS Jagan

YS Jagana Mohan Reddy

Palakonda, Srikakulam district:

Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly and YSR Congress party president flayed Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for publicising relief to Titli cyclone victims, but doing precious little in the affected areas. Chandrababu sought a relief amount of Rs. 3430 crore from the Centre. How much was distributed to the poor cyclone victims in affected areas?, he pointedly questioned the AP chief minister.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy added that AP spent only Rs.210 cr but the publicity drive stretched all over the state including flexis in Vijayawada proclaiming Chandrababu Naidu as the saviour of Titli cyclone victims. He likened Chandrababu Naidu as someone who picks coins off corpses. The YSRCP chief added that his party would stand by Titli cyclone victims when it comes to power.

The AP Leader of Opposition reminded the huge gathering that Praja Sankalpa Yatra entered Srikakulam after passing through 12 districts. People everywhere including Srikakulam stressed upon the same thing: they said their troubles had grown two-fold in these four and a half years under Chandrababu Naidu.

In contrast, we cannot forget the rule of the late Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who envisioned a welfare state synonymous with good governance. It was Dr. YSR who gave the backward Srikakulam district a medical college and a university. It was Dr. YSR who planned and initiated Vamsadhara project to irrigate these parts, he reminded the large audience.

Chandrababu Naidu never bothered about this project when he was chief minister earlier for 9 years. When Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy took over as chief minister in 2004, he drove the project on a war footing, YS Jagan recalled.

In contrast the TDP government was not able to complete even 10% of work left on Thotapalli project. Similarly, in Dr. YSR's time 2,75,000 houses were built in 10 constituencies. He personally supervised the construction of houses for

Tsunami-affected people. Under TDP government, there were no houses for the poor, he pointed out.

The Veeraghattam-Palakonda region is a parched one and after having forgotten all about it, after four and a half years, Chandrababu Naidu thinks of Left Canal of Thotapalli, YS Jagan remarked. He also reminded the huge crowd that Chandrababu Naidu had promised to turn the village of Thettangi into a model village with a hospital, a veterinary hospital, sulabh complex, a dumping yard, drainage facilities and a host of other amenities. Not one of these free-wheeling promises has been fulfilled, YS Jagan observed.

On the contrary, TDP leaders had grabbed 4 acres belonging to a school building. When Chandrababu visited Tettangi one year ago, when this land-grabbing was brought to the notice of the AP chief minister, he said it will be restored immediately. A year later, girl students of the school are complaining about the land-grabbing of their school area even today.

The YSRCP chief commented that though Chandrababu Naidu has declared Palakonda a municipalty now, it has no facilities. Property tax has risen from Rs.300 to Rs. 1080. As for water, drinking water was contaminated with drainage, he said and raised a bottle of contaminated water for the crowd to see.

YS Jagan pointed out that basic facilities were missing, 108 services were in shambles. The 2 vehicles which are there are in a rickety condition. Speaking of the Girijan cooperative corporation, YS Jagan said that it had been completely watered down by TDP. The YSRCP chief pointed out that tamarind purchased from the poor tribals for Rs.55 was sold in Chandrababu Naidu owned Heritage outlets for Rs.390 and this was high-quality tamarind, he said.

The YSRCP chief recalled that it was Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy who introduced Arogyasri for free quality healthcare. The best of medical treatment was provided to the poorest person free of cost. Today, Hyderabad has the best healthcare facilities, but Arogyasri is not extended there he said. Network hospitals have not been paid for 8 months by AP government.

YS Jagan said that under the YSRCP healthcare over Rs.1000 will be covered and surgery anywhere will be taken care of by the government. Rajanna Rajyam will be based on Navarathnalu or people's manifesto, he added.
