A 31-year-old man in Telangana’s Sangareddy district ended his life after reportedly losing a large sum of money in cricket betting. The deceased, identified as Akhil from Sai Nagar in RC Puram mandal, had checked into an OYO room near Beeramguda Kaman on Monday evening.

According to police reports, Akhil contacted his father, Sangeeth Rao, to confess that he had sustained heavy losses through betting and was being pressured. Despite his father’s attempt to offer help, Akhil took the extreme step shortly afterward. The next morning, hotel staff opened the room after he failed to emerge and found him hanging from a ceiling fan.

Officials have registered a case of suspicious death and launched a full investigation. This tragic incident highlights the growing menace of online betting and its devastating mental and financial impact on young adults.

Authorities in Telangana have warned that numerous suicides in recent months are being linked to gambling losses, prompting increased calls for stricter regulation of betting apps and stronger support systems for those affected.
