Telangana: Medicine Delivery By Drone In Flood Affected Areas

Telangana has already started delivering medicines and vaccines using drones under the 'Medicine From The Sky' project. The trial flights started from September 9 and will continue till October 10 at Vikarabad. Telangana became the first state in India to start trials of Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone flights for the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines.

Now, in the wake of cyclone Gulab, medicines have been delivered to flood-affected areas and other villages. On Monday, medicines were delivered to Anantagiri of Vikarabad district and also in Kamareddy district.

Due to heavy rainfall, the gates of Nizamsagar have been lifted. As a result, the road leading to Kurthi village of Pitlam Mandal has been blocked due to inundation, affecting traffic movement.  But a person in the village was in the need of medicines so, the authorities have sent medicines through drones. 

Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone flights for delivery of COVID-19 vaccines are flights that go beyond 500-700 metres from the eye's vision or beyond the visual line of sight.
