Telangana Institutes Gaddar Awards to Replace Nandi Awards

Hyderabad: The Telangana government will institute a new award in the name of revolutionary Telugu balladeer Gummadi Vittal Rao aka Gaddar and henceforth this award will replace Nandi awards which has been given to the film artistes from the Telugu film industry. 

Chief minister Revanth Reddy made this announcement after attending the Gaddar Jayanti programme held at Ravindra Bharati here on Wednesday. He was accompanied by the deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. 

Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said the government has decided to honour the renowned folk singer Gaddar,who passed away in August last year, by instituting an award in his name and every year these awards will be presented to the poets, artistes and film personalities. 

He said Telangana state was built on the foundation of sacrifices made by several sons of soil and Gaddar through his revolutionary poetry inspired a generation. The chief minister also said that efforts will be made to install two Gaddar statues – one on Tankbund and the other in Tellapur municipality.
