Amazon Inc’s ongoing global layoffs have sparked panic among employees at its Hyderabad campus — the company’s largest office building in the world. According to sources, the layoffs that began in July 2025 are expected to continue until the end of December, leaving thousands uncertain about their future.
Insiders revealed that the number of terminations has surged sharply in recent weeks, with several teams reportedly cut down to half their original size. The job cuts have hit multiple departments, including coordination, transport, and shipping operations. Even long-serving employees with close to a decade of experience have not been spared.
Globally, Amazon has laid off around 14,000 employees this year. Staff at the Hyderabad office attributed the move to a decline in workload and fewer cases to handle, following internal restructuring.
A former employee, who recently lost his job, shared his ordeal. “I received a call on Saturday, followed by an email from the consultancy through which I was hired. It said my contract had ended, and I would receive one month’s notice pay with full and final settlement. My ID was deactivated immediately, and I was asked to complete the exit formalities,” he said.
He added that the sudden decision left him shocked. “The job market is very bad now. Without any prior notice, they sent the mail on Saturday evening while I was preparing for work on Monday.”
Sources confirmed that employees hired through third-party consultancies have been affected the most, compared to those on Amazon’s direct payroll. While some believe AI-driven automation might have reduced manual workloads, employees insist that “a large portion of the work still requires human effort.”
Many laid-off staff are struggling to come to terms with the abrupt terminations. “They could have at least informed us a week or a month earlier. My mind still hasn’t processed that I’ve lost my job. Now other companies will see us as underperformers just because we were laid off,” said another employee.
With layoffs expected to continue through the end of the year, uncertainty looms large over Amazon’s Hyderabad workforce — a reminder of how global corporate shifts are hitting home for India’s tech professionals.
