Meta has introduced a new feature called "Teen Accounts" on Instagram to improve safety for users under the age of 16. This feature is part of Meta's updated security policy, aiming to protect teens while they use the platform. As part of the changes, Meta has blocked teen users from using Instagram Live without parental approval. Additionally, the company has restricted the ability to view explicit content in direct messages.

This new "Teen Account" program, which Meta first launched in September last year, allows parents to monitor their children's activities on Instagram. With the update, teens will need their parents’ permission before using certain features like Instagram Live. In addition, the program brings a few other important changes to enhance safety for young users.

For example, teen accounts will automatically be set to private, meaning only approved followers can see their posts. Private messages from strangers will be blocked, and there will be stricter limits on sensitive content, such as videos of fights. Instagram will also send reminders to take breaks after an hour of use and will pause notifications during bedtime hours.

This new security feature is initially being rolled out in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Meta hopes these changes will help make Instagram a safer space for younger users, giving parents more control and offering stronger protection from harmful content.

These updates are a part of Meta's ongoing efforts to improve the safety and well-being of its younger audience while ensuring a better user experience overall.
