Kohli has opted to step down as India's T20I captain after the T20 World Cup, citing a tough workload. Many have begun to speculate whether he will step down as RCB captain after IPL 2021, especially with a major auction for IPL 2022 approaching.
Since taking over as captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2013, there has been a lot of pressure on him to lead the franchise to their maiden IPL victory. However, while doing admirably on an individual level, he has failed miserably to win a title.
RCB has seen highs and lows under Virat Kohli's leadership. Despite reaching individual milestones such as becoming the IPL's all-time leading scorer, the IPL title has remained elusive.RCB's team had failed in the final three times and the IPL playoffs three times, including IPL 2020.

Franchise believes in Virat Kohli's captaincy and is hoping for a title. However, there were some rumors that RCB might replace him with someone, most likely AB de Villiers, ahead of a blockbuster auction in February 2022.
