NEW DELHI: RAJYA SABHA Session Day 1: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Parliamentary Party leader V Vijayasai Reddy today stormed into the well of the Rajya Sabha today on the first day  (Monday) of the monsoon session seeking an immediate debate in the House on the issue of granting special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

The YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy had issued a notice under Rule 267 to the Rajya Sabha Chairman seeking suspension of other activities in the Rajya Sabha today and conduct a discussion on the issue of special status as the resolution passed by the Union Cabinet on March 11, 2014, approving the issue of granting special status to the state was not implemented for the past seven years. Vijayasai Reddy stormed into the house podium after the Speaker announced that he denied the request to allow a debate on the notice for the time being.

Along with the YSRCP MP, other party members who insisted on a discussion on various issues also chanted slogans and trooped near the well of the house. With this, House President Venkaiah Naidu addressed Vijayasai Reddy and said that the issue of special status mentioned in his notice was worthy of a discussion however, he said he could not allow the debate today.

Even as the YSRCP MPs and other Opposition leaders were protesting near the well, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen silently watching the proceedings in the House during the agitation.
