Who Was Darshan Singh Sahsi? Punjabi Business Tycoon Shot Dead in Canada

In a shocking incident, prominent Punjabi-Canadian businessman Darshan Singh Sahsi was shot dead outside his home in Abbotsford, British Columbia, on October 27 (Monday).

The 68-year-old entrepreneur, originally from Rajgarh near Doraha in Ludhiana district, was the president of Canam International, a globally renowned clothing recycling company.

According to the Abbotsford Police Department, the shooting occurred at 9:22 a.m. in the 31300 block of Ridgeview Drive. The attacker was allegedly waiting in a car parked along the road for Sahsi to arrive. As soon as he sat in his vehicle, the assailant opened fire and fled the scene.

Police said Sahsi was found in critical condition inside his car when officers reached the site. Despite efforts by first responders, he succumbed to his injuries.

No arrests have been made so far. Sergeant Paul Walker stated that the investigation is in its early stages, with additional resources deployed to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
“The Abbotsford Police Department’s Major Crime Unit is transitioning the investigation to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), which will provide further updates as the probe advances,” he said.

Three nearby schools were briefly placed under shelter-in-place protocols, police added, noting that no students were harmed or directly affected.

Canam International is recognized in over 40 countries for its transparent and sustainable business practices and has been a key player in the global textile recycling chain since the early 1990s.

Within his community, Sahsi was known for his philanthropy. Many of his company’s employees were from Punjab, and he also had business operations in Kandla, Gujarat.

Born into a farming family, Sahsi migrated to Canada in 1991 and took up odd jobs before purchasing shares in a struggling unit, later transforming it into a global leader in textile recycling.
