Cyclone Senyar, which developed over the Strait of Malacca, is now moving west-northwest and is expected to influence weather conditions across South India over the next few days. Meteorological agencies have indicated that the system will continue to strengthen as it travels towards the Bay of Bengal, bringing widespread rainfall between November 25 and December 1.
Tamil Nadu is likely to experience the earliest and most intense spells. From November 25 to November 30, several districts, including Chennai, Nagapattinam, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram and other coastal and delta regions, are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Authorities have already placed vulnerable regions on alert, anticipating waterlogging, disruptions to transport and strong bursts of wind during peak hours.
Kerala is set to feel the impact beginning November 26, particularly across its coastal areas. Meteorologists warn of heavy showers accompanied by gusty winds and rough sea conditions. Fishermen have been strongly advised to stay away from the coast until the weather improves.
Andhra Pradesh is likely to be affected slightly later in the cycle. Between November 29 and December 1, heavy rainfall is expected along the coastal belt and parts of the Rayalaseema region as the system moves further northwest. Rough seas and intermittent thunderstorms are also possible during this period.
Officials across all three states are monitoring the cyclone’s trajectory closely. Residents in coastal and low-lying areas are urged to follow local advisories, avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors during intense spells of rain. The next several days are crucial, as Cyclone Senyar continues to influence weather patterns across the southern peninsula.
