Tripura banks are closed today, 19th August 2025, on the birthday anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, according to the Reserve Bank of India holiday list. This state holiday is only for Agartala, while banks in other metropolitan cities of India are open and function as usual.

Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, born on 19th August 1908, is best remembered for his efforts in putting Tripura on the path of modernization of its education system, administration, and infrastructure. His legacy lives on, and in the state, this bank holiday is proof of his lasting influence.

Banking Services Available

Even though there are no physical bank branches open in Tripura, customers are still able to access basic banking services through:

  • Digital Channels: Net banking, mobile banking, UPI, and ATMs can be used for transactions, balance checks, and bill payments.
  • Online Requests: Customers are able to submit online requests for chequebooks, demand drafts, and account services.
  • But facilities like cheque clearance and issue of demand drafts at branches are not available today.

  • August 28 (Thursday): Ganesh Chaturthi (second day) / Nuakhai (Bhubaneswar and Panaji)

RBI's Bank Holiday Categories
The Reserve Bank of India distinguishes between three types of bank holidays:

  • Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act: Physical banking transactions, such as cheque clearing, are interrupted.
  • RTGS Holidays: Real-time gross settlement transactions are not executed.
  • Closing of Bank Accounts by Banks: Closing of bank accounts every year.
