Grey Movie Review

26 May, 2023 12:12 IST|Sakshi Post

'Grey' is produced by M/s. Adwitiya Movies Private Limited. Producers Venkata Kiran Kallakuri and Hema Madhuri Kallakuri have released the movie in theatres this Friday.

Plot:

Sudarshan Reddy (Pratap Pothen) is a renowned nuclear scientist who is aged 50. He is doing groundbreaking research that can reshape the world. His invention is wanted by an advanced country but he is not up for sale.

Aarushi Sharma (Urvashi Rai), a journalist, seeks his interview. Unexpectedly, the scientist falls in love with her and they both get married. Very soon, the scientist is found shot dead in his palatial house. In comes a cop (Ali Reza), who discovers that there is more to the mysterious death than meets the eye.

Performances:

More than Pratap Pothen, it is newcomer Urvashi Rai who is the film's protagonist. She is hot and excels in steamy scenes. Her screen presence in erotic scenes is lovely. Ali Reza of Bigg Boss fame shows range. Arvind Krishna plays Dr. Raghu, a psychiatrist with exceptional hypnotic powers. The actor does a decent job. The film's director, Raj Madiraju, is seen in the role of a RAW agent.

Technicians:

Editor Satya Giduturi does a below-average job. Some scenes could have been shortened. Cinematographer Chetan Madhuranthakam had a relatively easy job. Most of the story takes place in a bungalow. The monochrome nature leaves nothing much for technicians to experiment with in terms of colour palette. Nagaraju Talluri's music is disappointing. The background score is tonally inconsistent.

Analysis:

Director Raj Madiraju undertakes a challenging subject. In the past many years, a number of Indian scientists have died in mysterious circumstances. When a Bollywood actor is found dead, TV channels go crazy. But the deaths of our scientists are barely discussed. It's shocking. What drives some of those deaths? 'Grey' tries to explore it by building an erotic thriller and a crime story.

The first half has a snail-paced story. But the second half ties up all the threads. The last 30 minutes are gripping. The film doesn't shy away from calling a spade a spade. It tries to make us feel sympathy for the tough job of spies and RAW agents. Scientists don't have it easy either.

Are there heroes and villains in a story? In a regular story, there are many. But in the real world, things are complex. Greed, lust and hunger for power are incurable. 'Grey' explores multiple themes in a slow-burn fashion.

If you judge the film by its steamy scenes, you won't be able to understand the intent. You have to wait for the second half to do the talking.

Verdict:

'Grey' is a watchable thriller with a dose of romance and eroticism. And yes, there is suspense as well.
