Heart attacks which are known to occur in obese and high-on-cholesterol people have shown a different where in recent times many young people between the age group of 25-40 had heart attacks and died leading to a state of alarm.

At a point in time there was a hashtag ‘Heart attack’ trending on Twitter after several videos emerged showing young people doing everyday activities such as walking on the street, working out at gyms and dancing at weddings, and suddenly collapsing on the floor due to a heart attack.

Several celebrities like Kannada superstar Puneeth Rajkumar, singer KK and the recent case of comedian Raju Srivastava and TV actor Siddhaanth Vir Surryavansh who collapsed and died due to cardiac arrest.

Though there were misconceptions about heart attacks and cardiac arrests there was news about these attacks related to the long-term effects of COVID-19 and also due to taking the COVID vaccine.

In a report published in the Times of India, doctors admitted to the fact there could be a link between heart attack and COVID affliction.

"There is no quantifiable data available at present on the rise in the incidence of sudden cardiac death but anecdotal evidence clearly suggests so," Dr Rakesh Yadav, professor of cardiology at AIIMS, said, adding that it could be linked to long Covid.

According to Dr. Sudhir Gupta, professor and head of forensic medicine and toxicology at AIIMS, post-mortem should be conducted in sudden cardiac deaths involving young individuals with no known history of heart disease or other known risk factors.
"It will help conclude the cause of death. Also, in case the death was caused due to an undiagnosed heart condition, then the family can be asked to undergo screening to rule out the disease as well. Some of the heart diseases are known to run in families," Gupta said.

Doctors stress on the need for increased awareness among the public about the warning symptoms of heart attack or cardiac arrest and how to respond to such a situation.
