Revolver Rita Review: Keerthy Suresh's Dark Comedy is a Bland Misfire!

Revolver Rita arrives with the promise of a bold, stylish dark comedy, but the final product feels far less sharp than its premise. Keerthy Suresh steps into a gritty, unconventional role with evident commitment, yet the film around her struggles to match her intensity or ambition.

The plot is set over one chaotic day involving a stolen bag, gangsters, hired killers and a trail of misunderstandings. On paper, it has the ingredients of a zippy crime caper. On screen, however, the storytelling feels rushed and frequently disjointed. Scenes jump abruptly, humour feels forced and the narrative rarely settles into a rhythm.

Keerthy’s performance stands out as one of the few strong elements. She brings swagger and sincerity to Rita, but even she cannot elevate writing that often feels thin and repetitive. Many of the supporting characters are loud caricatures, and their exaggerated reactions dilute the impact of the darker, more thrilling beats the film attempts to land.

The tonal imbalance is one of the film’s biggest issues. What starts as quirky black comedy soon slips into chaos without control. The humour leans on over-the-top gags that rarely land, while the crime elements lack the tension needed to hold the story together. The second half, in particular, loses steam, with subplots dragging and the momentum dropping sharply.

Visually, the film tries to adopt a stylised approach, but the execution feels inconsistent.
